Analytics & SEO

Tracking and Analysis.

The Google Analytics dashboard provides easy to use features that let you see and analyze your web site's traffic. There's an incredible level of detail available to Analytics users that requires no additional effort beyond the initial setup.

Google Analytics supplies all of the information that is critical to the success of any blog, website, e-commerce store, you name it. Through Geo-map you can see simple geographical maps, which shows your recent site visitor is from which part of the world.

Say a developer has developed a brand new website for your growing business. Good SEO rankings on search engines will drive traffic to your website, this is organic traffic (possibly the most sought after) and any social media campaigns will in turn drive your visitors to return for your profit.

Return of investment on the time or money spent on SEO should fall into these 3 categories:

  1. Rankings
  2. Count of Visitors
  3. Revenue
You should concentrate on a few phrases to rank your website effectively to the keyword you want.

Analysing your Audience pt1

Audience pt1

Demographic data is usually associated to marketing which makes it vital to website owners who have a product to sell. Web Analytics gives you a vital insight into the performance of your internet marketing project and whether it is generating the right results (Selling!!).

Google Analytics shows administrators a range of data vital to marketing. This includes; Country, City, Language, Page Views and Traffic Sources

What should you be most interested in?

Well, all of the above. Country, City and Language may be the starting point to finding whether your product has a high demand, but your main interest is the last two.

Identify which pages are the most popular. If one or more pages are particularly unpopular you will be able to identify any different features between both popular and unpopular pages. You will want to find out which landing page is generating the best results, from this you will be able to change the least popular landing pages and hopefully convert more.

Traffic Sources are split into three groups; Direct, Referral & Search Engine

Direct Traffic is where a visitor has directly linked to your website. This may be through typing it in the URL address bar, clicking on a bookmark, or through an email. Direct Traffic usually comes after your website hits a high level of popularity.

Referral Traffic is where a visitor is linked to your website through another website. These days this is most likely a social media website such as Facebook, Google+ or Twitter. Referral Traffic is generally a good indicator of social media and general marketing success.

Search Engine Traffic is in the name. It is where a visitor has clicked on a link to your website on a search engine such as Google or Bing. This is called organic traffic. Search Engine Traffic is an indicator of which keywords work best to drive the traffic to your website.

Technorati

As an experiment I have put my blog onto Technorati which is a blog directory. It will be interesting to see if I can get referral traffic from Technorati. This will be able to enhance my research into the blog's analytics.

Introduction to Web Analytics

Welcome to my Blog!

What is this Blog?

This blog will be following my research into web analytics. Most of the discussion will surround Google Analytics and what you can achieve with the tracking software, although I will also be using YouTube and Facebook analytics. This blog will be also used in the research.

So what is Web Analytics?

Analytics allow an administrator of a website to view how many people are visiting their website. It allows for very in-depth demographics of the users. Information such as OS, Browser, Traffic Sources and Location are all an integral part of analytics.

What use do Web Analytics serve?

Imagine you own a website and you're trying to sell a product or a niche. You will want to know what type of audience is attracted to your website. Using a service such as Google Analytics will show you what demographics your website is attracting. If you're attracting many users in a country such as the United Kingdom you will want to make sure your product is available there.

Thanks for reading my short introduction post. I will be introducing more content in the coming days, this will include features of Google Analytics and the effect on web marketing.
